After winning the first event of the Victorian tour in Australia,We made it to Thailand for the final leg of the Swatch FIVB World Tour event (www.fivb.ch) held in beautiful Phuket, Thailand. Claire had some amazing help from friends/ family and collegues to get her to the event and we're very grateful! Checkout her webpage for all the links! (www.dreamcentralmedia.com.au).
I went to Thailand early and have plenty of time to acclimitize to the slightly different time zone and quite different weather zone (coming from Melbourne, who hasnt quite realised that summer is on the way!). Managed to find a great little Massage place ( @ Relax) to get the body all prepared for the event and unwind all the kinks from long drives commuting to Melbourne and hard trainings. Oh and 'Mr Thong's for the best Phad Thai around!!
The tournament started on Wednesday and we were matched against the top team from Kazakstan. They have played a lot of events this year. They got the jump on us and then we manganed to find our feet towards the end of the set loosing 21-11, the second set was point for point and we were just pipped at the end of the set loosing 21-16. As Claire put it 'we had moments of brilliance, but just not enough of them!
We were pretty dissappointed. It's hard when you train so hard and sacrifice so much to still loose. I felt pretty flat. I thought were to now? Do we just quit this mission? Quitting would be the easy option and we don't take the easy options. You don't get to be the best you can be (whatever that is) by giving up! We chose to focus instead on what we can do to improve to follow our dream. We focused on the positive things and where to next. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and then another and another .. and so on!. So stay tuned for what that next step is! Sponsors always welcome! The finals were amazing with the no. 1 Chinese team taking the Gold Medal followed by USA, the Silver and Italy just squeezed out the Aussies (Palmer / Bawden) for the bronze. It was so hot, (even as a spectator!) and there were a few medical time outs in the final games from heat exhausion, so it was pretty tough tournament!
It seems there are lessons everywhere, if you look. In our cute little 'basic' place we were staying during the first few days the tap didnt work in the bathroom! Then randomly I tried it again a few days later and it was working! It made me think how many times do we think something isnt possible only to not try!? That one time you do... maybe you will prove yourself and your beliefs wrong! Oh well that's my rant for the week! Thanks for reading...
Oh and I got my business card in Mr Richard Branson's hot hands by a strike of genius by by new friend Sanka. Thanks Sanka, hopefully he gets in contact soon!
Well I got a plane to catch, stay well and happy peps! Keep living yr dreams! x
